The Thrills Ready To Record Next Album

The Thrills are ready to start recording their next album, with about twenty songs in the running.

The band will be working again with 'Let's Bottle Bohemia''sTony Hoffer in Vancouver next week.

Frontman Conor has said: "There's almost twenty songs to fight over. It's a large figure for us. In the past we only ever had thirteen or fourteen songs to go into the studio with.

In fact the dreaded 'double album' was even mentioned for a fleeting moment (and thankfully dismissed just as quickly).

We have a title for the record already in mind. (In the past we always found ourselves scrambling like headless chickens for a title that would somehow sum up the mood of the album with deadlines nipping at our heels).

This meant we could meet the art department in London to start brainstorming early over artwork and the record sleeve.

We've always been heavily involved in this. Sometimes even to our detriment. I still get death threats over the last album cover."

The Thrills are reuniting with So Much For The City man Tony Hoffer on their third album, which is now at the demo stage and likely to hit the racks in late autumn.

The Thrills use California as inspiration for new album

Irish rockers The Thrills have returned to California to get some inspiration as they prepare to record their third album.

The band are currently in a Dublin studio working on demos for their third album, though they recently returned to the US West Coast, a massive inspiration for the songs which made up their acclaimed 2003 debut 'So Much for the City'.

Frontman Conor Deasy told Rolling Stone, "After complaining and yearning, we finally got off the road a few months ago. But after a couple weeks, everyone was getting restless and itchy again. Touring changes you: You're always wondering what's going on somewhere else."

Three of the group - Deasy, keyboardist Kevin Horan and bassist Padraic McMahon - decided to go on a bit of a road trip.

"There were a few things Kev wanted to do for a while: He really wanted to go to Big Sur again, and he wanted to see Hearst Castle," said Deasy. "Padraic wanted to see Joshua Tree, because he is the biggest Gram Parsons fan in the band. So it was like, 'Fuck it! Let's make it happen.'"

New songs the band are working on include 'Should Have Known Better', 'There's Someone New In Your Life', 'Teenager', 'Second Guessing' and 'Music Won't Change the World'. The follow-up to 2004's 'Let's Bottle Bohemia' is expected sometime in 2006.

Deasy said of the new songs: "With this record we made ourselves a promise to write the best songs we can. And it doesn't matter if it seems like it's a step into the unknown. I just hope, by not being self-conscious about it, the songs have naturally become quite unique. This has seemed like a progression for us."

Thrills Speak At Icecream Sundae Gig

The Thrills, who’d flown in specially from Portugal, headlined the first Ben & Jerry’s ‘Sundae On The Common’ , London on August 7th. Guitarist Padraic McMahon explained that while the band are almost “officially on holiday”, they decided they’d make the effort to help raise some cash for charity,

“We hadn’t really done much this summer and we’re about to take some time off, but we thought it’d be a nice way to spend the evening,” he said. “We really rushed the second album, so while we’ve a lot of the third record written already, we’re going to go away, enjoy ourselves and then take our time on the next record.

“We’ll be popping up every now and then but we’re mainly going to be recording new material over the next six months. A few select people may get to hear that though, we might do a little fans-only thing and get some people from the website down [for a secret gig].”
