Conceived in the halcyon hothouse Orphanage of '67, proto alt. Country combo Strangely Strange essayed an eclectic ragbag of styles, often leavened with humour, flirting with free-form jazz ('nostril' variations) and 'serious' music ('Sparky bought it in the latrines'), they nonetheless remained faithful to their roots throughout a short, brilliant, career. Whilst garnering plaudits, commercial success was to elude their eager grasp. Ivan Pawle Febuary 2001 Beautiful Day will feature Dr Strangely Strange's Sign on my Mind for 1971. |
