Ash work on 27 songs for new album

Ash have revealed some details about their upcoming album.

The record is still very much a work in progress, but the band apparently have 27 songs which they are working on.

Lead singer Tim Wheeler wrote on the band's official website: "They're all arranged and sounding good as a band. I've still got to write most of my lyrics, though. I always write the melody and the music to begin with. At this point we've got a blank page and it feels like we can do anything with it. We're all pretty excited about it."

The group is currently working on the new material in New York.

Ash Drummer Refuses To Move With Band

Ash’s drummer Rick McMurray is refusing to move with the rest of the band.

Bandmates Tim Wheeler and Mark Hamilton are currently living in New York after moving last summer to record their new album.

However, McMurray is refusing to move from his home in Scotland. Wheeler explains: “We relocated here last summer, I'm loving it, but Rick is still in Scotland, he flies back and forth whenever we need him."

Charlotte Hatherley has left Ash.

The guitarist announced her departure from the band today (January 20), after almost a decade with the band.

The group issued the following statement confirming the split:

"After nine years Ash and Charlotte Hatherley have mutually agreed to part company. The decision is completely amicable and they wish each other the very best for the future".

They added: "Ash are returning to the studio later this year to make the follow up to 2004's 'Meltdown' album. Charlotte is currently recording tracks for her second solo album which she plans to release in the autumn this year."

Ash originally formed as a three-piece in 1992, before Hatherley joined the line-up in 1997.

Ash Tour bus Catches Fire

Ash narrowly escaped tragedy in America when their tour bus caught fire after a gig in Los Angeles.After finishing a gig at the city’s Knitting Factory, the band were travelling to San Francisco when they were woken by their sound man as the bus began to fill with smoke, reports NME.

Ash are supporting U2

Ash are supporting U2 at the following venues:  July 20th and 21st: Milan San Siro Stadium July 18th: Zurich, Letzigrund Stadium. There are two vesrions of the Ash official website, one for the UK and one for the US. There is a great Ash blog  which will keep you bang up-to-date on the latest news from the group.

Ash have cancelled their release of Evil Eye, a downloadable mini-album which was to have included 9 live tacks recorded in Vienna.
